Kansas State Takes Down Tulane 17-10 in a Defensive Battle

Wildcats Hold Off Green Wave for First Win of 2023

K-State Defense Stifles Tulane Offense

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State Wildcats held off a late rally by the Tulane Green Wave to secure a 17-10 victory in their season opener on Saturday night at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

The Wildcats' defense was the star of the show, limiting the Green Wave to just 226 total yards of offense, including only 51 yards on the ground. Tulane's only touchdown came on a 2-yard run by running back Cameron Carroll in the third quarter.

Offensively, Kansas State was led by quarterback Adrian Martinez, who completed 15 of 25 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown, a 3-yard strike to tight end Ben Sinnott late in the first half.

Wildcats Dominate Time of Possession

One of the keys to Kansas State's victory was their ability to control the ball. The Wildcats held the ball for 36 minutes and 26 seconds, compared to just 23 minutes and 34 seconds for Tulane.

This allowed Kansas State to keep the Tulane offense off the field and maintain a consistent pace of play.

Special Teams Play a Factor

Special teams also played a significant role in the outcome of the game. The Wildcats blocked a Tulane punt in the third quarter, which led to a field goal from kicker Ty Zentner.

Additionally, Kansas State's kickoff coverage unit pinned Tulane deep in their own territory on multiple occasions.

Outlook for Both Teams

With the win, Kansas State improves to 1-0 on the season and will look to keep the momentum going next Saturday when they host the South Dakota Coyotes.

Tulane, now 0-1, will return home to face the Massachusetts Minutemen in their home opener.
